The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared the elections of the Anambra Gubernatorial polls inconclusive as the number of cancelled votes is more than the difference between the highest number of votes and the runner up.
As a result, supplementary elections are to be held where elections were inconclusive,the Chief Returning Officer for the Anambra State Governorship Election, Prof. James Epoke, had announced the results with Chief Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance,APGA leading in the election conducted on Saturday 16 and 17 November 2013.
The details of the results of the election, according to Epoke, lecturer at the University of Calabar shows that the APGA Candidate,WILLIE OBIANO leads in the the race with 174, 710 votes while Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate,TONY NWOYE garnered 94, 356 votes,APC’s Senator CHRIS NGIGE had 92, 300 votes.
Total number of cancelled votes in 160 Polling Units across Idemili North Local government which translates to 113,113 registered voters is more than the difference between the highest number of votes and the runner up,INEC says a supplementary election is to be held where elections were cancelled.
Obaino who has scaled past Senator Chris Ngige of All Progressives Congress, Ifeanyi Ubah of Labour Party, Tony Nwoye of Peoples Democratic Party among others in the race for the coveted seat of government in Awka,the Anambra state capital
The results indicate that Obaino is leading in majority of the constituencies and may win the position after the supplementary election to be held by INEC
