Ekiti Community Seeks Police Protection (@ekitistategov)

The people of Ifaki Ekiti in Ido/Osi Local Government area of Ekiti State has called for the upgrading of the Police post in the town to a division.

The spokesman for the community, Chief Deji Ajayi, made the call on Tuesday during Governor Kayode Fayemi’s tour of the state.

He said the demand was necessary in view of the incessant robbery cases being experienced in the area.

The community, he said, had of late come under siege, with robbers attacking residents along major roads in the area indiscriminately.

He said, “This community has witnessed several cases of banditry because of its proximity to major roads linking the state with the neighbouring Kogi State and Abuja.

“The conversion of the police station in the town to a divisional status will help in stemming the tide of robbery. Robbery has caused serious trauma to our people in this community.

“You could attest to the fact that Ifaki is a nodal town. It has many roads, particularly major ones, so we

are under robbery siege. We will be glad if the governor can do the legwork for the conversion of the existing police station to a divisional headquarters so that more police could be drafted to Ifaki Ekiti.”

Ajayi also urged the state government to embark on the Ero Dam project for the supply of potable water.

In his response, the governor assured them that he would liaise with the relevant authorities to ensure the conversion of the police post to a divisional headquarters.
