Suspected Fulani herdsmen, at the weekend, killed one Zilly Joseph, a 52-year-old farmer in Agadama-Uwheru community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The bullet-ridden body of Joseph was reportedly found on his farmland by a search party sent out when he did not return home at the expected time, after leaving for the farm early on Saturday.
His immediate family members had raised an alarm and a search party was sent into the bush on Saturday night. On Sunday morning, the team returned with a report that he had been found dead, with his motorcycle carefully parked at the farm.
Sources say youths in the community took to the streets in protest, blocking the Bomadi/Ohoro Road, until men of Joint Military Taskforce, JTF, in the area, put the situation under control.
The JTF commander in the area, Lt Col Attahiru Rasheed, told newsmen that: “We had intensified patrol in the area and our men are fully on ground to respond in the event of any emergency call.”
“We had taken over the communities and normalcy had returned. We will not relent in our effort at getting the killers of these innocent villagers. I speak with you, my men have been in Ohoro since last week Wednesday. And I personally led another squad to Agadama this (Sunday) morning.”
Investigations are on into the matter.
