When was the last time we heard some positive news out of Plateau state? The terrible communal clashes in that state continues to worsen daily and the death count ticks ever higher.
On Thursday, another senseless attack in Plateau Central, saw 10 members of the same family killed by attackers who wore military uniforms. As if to underscore how so unfeeling the attackers were, half of the victims brutally murdered were kids under the age of six.
This much was confirmed by the military spokesman and an official of the state government on Friday.
“A family of 10 were … murdered. Five little children including a two-month-old child were slaughtered,” said Pam Ayuba, a spokesman for the Plateau government.
Ayuba further said that after the attack, he personally visited the family’s compound, spoke to several witnesses who described the massacre as being carried out by Muslim Fulani herdsmen armed with guns and machetes, with some dressed as soldiers.
Lt. Kingsley Amos, who is the military spokesman in Plateau, confirmed the incident, but insisted that there were no soldiers involved in the attack.
“Somehow, some hoodlums and criminals gained access to our old uniforms…but I can assure that none of our people were involved,” he told AFP.
